چکیده

Modern propositional satisfiability (or SAT) solvers are very powerful due to recent developments on the underlying data structures, the used heuristics to guide the search, the deduction techniques to infer knowledge, and the formula simplification techniques that are used during preand inprocessing. However, when all these techniques are put together, the soundness of the combined algorithm is not guaranteed any more. In this paper we present a small set of rules that allows to model modern SAT solvers in terms of a state transition system. With these rules all techniques which are applied in modern SAT solvers can be adequately modeled. Finally, we compare Generic CDCL with related systems.

On Tackling the Limits of Resolution in SAT Solving

The practical success of Boolean Satisfiability (SAT) solvers stems from the CDCL (Conflict-Driven Clause Learning) approach to SAT solving. However, from a propositional proof complexity perspective, CDCL is no more powerful than the resolution proof system, for which many hard examples exist. This paper proposes a new problem transformation, which enables reducing the decision problem for for...

Non-Restarting SAT Solvers with Simple Preprocessing Can Efficiently Simulate Resolution

Propositional satisfiability (SAT) solvers based on conflict directed clause learning (CDCL) implicitly produce resolution refutations of unsatisfiable formulas. The precise class of formulas for which they can produce polynomial size refutations has been the subject of several studies, with special focus on the clause learning aspect of these solvers. The results, however, assume the use of no...

A Verified SAT Solver Framework with Learn, Forget, Restart, and Incrementality (Extended Abstract)

We developed a formal framework for CDCL (conflict-driven clause learning) in Isabelle/HOL. Through a chain of refinements, an abstract CDCL calculus is connected to a SAT solver expressed in a functional programming language, with total correctness guarantees. The framework offers a convenient way to prove metatheorems and experiment with variants. Compared with earlier SAT solver verification...

Conflict-Driven Clause Learning SAT Solvers

One of the main reasons for the widespread use of SAT in many applications is that Conflict-Driven Clause Learning (CDCL) Boolean Satisfiability (SAT) solvers are so effective in practice. Since their inception in the mid-90s, CDCL SAT solvers have been applied, in many cases with remarkable success, to a number of practical applications. Examples of applications include hardware and software m...

A Model-Constructing Satisfiability Calculus

We present a new calculus where recent model-based decision procedures and techniques can be justified and combined with the standard DPLL(T) approach to satisfiability modulo theories. The new calculus generalizes the ideas found in CDCL-style propositional SAT solvers to the first-order setting.
